2004-05-05 2:17 PM Cinco de Mayo or something Mood: sober Read/Post Comments (9) |
So, it is Cinco de Mayo. Since I really don't have the opportunity to drink too much anymore, I thought I would make this post a dedication to my old haunts when I DID drink on special occations, like today, or other special occasions, like days that end in "y".
Northeast Taproom This was the first bar I ever went to. I was about 18, back in the day when they didn't card if you looked old enough I guess. It was a divey neighborhood bar with peanut shells on the floor and a big basset hound named Tapper. I remember being there once and waiting for my friends when my Modern Fiction professor sat down next to me. I totally thought I was busted, but instead he bought me a beer! It was only after we were half way through that the light bulb went on and he said "hey, you're not 21!" He pretty much let me go- he prolly figured that me being in the bar was less of a scandel than him buying me a beer. Ah, good times. The Monte Vista Great live shows, dark and smokey! Great live shows! My friend's ska band, Warsaw, would play there. It was great because they were one of the few bands that played in town that sounded like "east coast" music. Charlys This was prolly where I spent most of my time. One of my roommate's boyfriends played there alot. Also, one of my other roommates was the director of a comedy group that was there every Sunday. Another friend, Tommy Dukes, played there every Monday night (if you like blues, check him out, he is in the AZ Blues Hall of Fame and totally kicks ass!). Needless to say, I was there a lot. I even took hubby there before leaving AZ (in fact wasn't that the reason we left a day behind schedule) ;) Watch City This became the wattering hole for hubby & myself. We got to know the owner and prolly spent a good few nights a week there. The David P. Ehrlich Co. A great little cigar bar. Knowing the bartender & many regulars helped. How many cigar bars do you know that would play Richard Cheese? Hope those of you that are partaking in any festivities today have a blast! Tonight, after the little one is asleep we will be having Taco Bell & Coronas on the couch. (I wouldn't trade it for anything) Read/Post Comments (9) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
