Injunction taken out against cat

A court injunction has been taken out against a cat in Holland after a series of bloody attacks on neighbouring pets.

The four-year-old Abyssian called Zino has reportedly "terrorised" the Dutch town of Mijdrecht, near Utrecht, for more than two years.

But the local council has now moved to keep Zino under house arrest - to the relief of other pet owners in the area.

Zino may be allowed outside on a leash or let free in a cage in the garden, but cannot walk the streets unaccompanied.

One neighbour, Sandra Bordes said: "I had left the door to the garden open. Suddenly I heard an infernal racket. The beast had attacked my son's parakeet.

"We don't have any problem with the man next door, but this cat is a case apart," she told newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.

A spokesman for the local council said it was clear that the cat had been a "nuisance factor" in the neighbourhood and various solutions were examined before the street ban was imposed.
