(Richmond-AP) -- A Richmond home owner got a scare this morning when she was moving furniture in her attic, and a strange device came rolling out.

The device looked like a wine bottle and had a pin on top. Homeowner Susan Jameson said it was covered in Russian writing, leading her to believe it might be a World War Two-era land mine.

She called police, and they have spent the morning trying to figure out what the device is, and if it might explode.

Residents were evacuated from three homes in the neighborhood while bomb technicians X-rayed the strange device to see if it could be opened safely.

Police were still investigating at noon.
