Queen of the Damned

It's been a while since I've written anything in here, but that's only because I haven't had anything really interesting to say.

After poking about the internet lately, I discovered a gem: The Corrs have launched a new official website! This one, unlike the Atlantic Records Flash site which hasn't been updated since last July, is touted as the most comprehensive and up-to-date Corrs site out there, with rumors of the Corrs themselves popping in every once in a while. This is a dream come true to a die-hard Corrs fan like myself. Not only are the new album and TV special coming out to promote the Live in Dublin performance, but there's a new website as well. I'm so excited I could wet myself.

In other news, I saw Queen of the Damned on opening weekend and loved it. I'm not much of an Anne Rice fan, but this was a fantastic movie. It was dark and moody and full of unbelievably good music. For all the hyping-up in the press about Aaliyah's presence in the movie, she only had about fifteen total minutes of screen time. Hell, they show most of her scenes in the previews. What blew me away was Stuart Townsend's portrayal of Lestat as goth rock god. He was simply fantastic.

I bought the Queen of the Damned soundtrack a week before the movie came out, and it was the primary reason I was so pumped up to see the movie. Jonathan Davis, Korn's frontman and lead singer, penned the five songs that Lestat sings in the movie, all voiced by different singers on the soundtrack: Wayne Static of Static-X sings "Not Meant For Me", David Draiman of Disturbed sings "Forsaken", Chester Bennington of Linkin Park sings "System", Marilyn Manson sings "Redeemer", and Jay Gordon of Orgy sings "Slept So Long". These songs by Davis (who also scored the movie and makes a brief cameo as a ticket scalper) fit the mood and setting of the story perfectly, adding another layer to the gothic-metal texture of the film. The soundtrack is probably the best I have ever heard, culling well-known and virtually unknown bands to create a cohesive album. It introduced me to fantastic bands like Static-X, Godhead, and Kidneythieves, compelling me to buy their albums to hear more of their music.

All for now.
