Well, it's been a nice lazy Sunday so far. I finished up Crash by J.G. Ballard, and was left going, "Okaaay, what the hell was that?" His provocative style and theories about the confluence of sex and violence are similar to Chuck Palahniuk, though their writing styles are totally different. It just makes you wonder about the sexual morés in 1973 London.

I also caught up on some mainstream short stories, reading "Six to Eight Black Men" by David Sedaris in Esquire and "The Kind Assassin" by T. Coraghessan Boyle in GQ. And in reading these stories, I realized that a mainstream story I'm working on might fit well in either of these places, though I know how competitive they are. I combed the internet this morning, but still could not find any market information or submission guidelines for either publication. If anyone out there could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

And I finally received in the mail yesterday my orders from Amazon: Polyphony 1 and Conjunctions 39: The New Wave Fabulists. I'm so excited to have both of these anthologies now, as they contain some of the best fabulist and slipstream writers out there today. Almost all my favorite speculative authors have a story in one or the other or both of these books. I'll probably start on Polyphony first since it's a bit shorter. But first I'm going to read If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino.

I haven't done any fiction writing since I revised "One Big Crunch" a couple of weeks ago, and I need to get back on it. As it is, I won't have a submission for this month's Cup-a-Prose meeting, unless I dig one of my older stories out for critique. I have all twelve of my most current stories out to publishers right now, and I'm not sure I want to have any of them critiqued again; there is such a thing as over-workshopping a story. I'll think of something.

Now Reading:
If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino

Stories Out to Publishers:
