Janet and I brought home the newest member of the family today:

winter-white dwarf hamster, not Pepper

Her name is Pepper (though her full name is Pippin Galadriel Moonchild; fans of Good Omens will get the reference), and she's a Winter-White dwarf hamster. This picture is not of her, but we haven't taken one yet. We're expecting that Janet's dad will give us a digital camera as a wedding gift, so you'll be seeing plenty of photos soon. We also got a groovy plastic cage with attachments for her to run through, and some hamster food which looks remarkably like birdseed.

Gah. I'm turning into one of those people who talks about their pets freely and ad nauseum to whoever will listen.

Pepper is my wedding gift to Janet, and she seems very happy to have another dwarf hamster. She wasn't able to bring over Sam and Frodo (her hamsters in Singapore) because they would have been quarantined and kept isolated for a long time, and that's just not fair to the little rodents. So I'm glad we were able to find one for her that she loves. We had to drive up to North Raleigh to find her, since dwarf hamsters are pretty rare, and Pepper was the least spastic and most comfortable in Janet's hands.

I have to admit, the little creature is pretty cute, and watching her on the hamster wheel is almost hypnotic.
