How many of you have picked up a book because an author you have heard of wrote the introduction to it? And what percentage of those picked up compelled you to buy the book, either because of the introduction or the other content inside?

Janet and I have been having this discussion lately, and I'm curious to see what y'all think. I have picked up and bought books because of an author introduction -- namely The Einstein Intersection by Samuel Delany, introduction by Neil Gaiman; Unspeakable Vitrine by Victoria Elizabeth Garcia, introduction by Ray Vukcevich; and City of Saints and Madmen by Jeff VanderMeer, introduction by Michael Moorcock. These were books I was interested in anyway, but the introduction was the kicker that made me buy them.

Please discuss in the comments.
