Lenny Bruce

Well, so much for my good mood . . .

It has just come to my attention that forty years (Yes FORTY FUCKING YEARS)after the state of New York prosecuted Lenny Bruce on an obscenity charge, said state has decided to pardon him as a show of their commitment to free speech.

What. The. Fuck.

You know, I'll never ceased to be amazed when a politician takes a cause celeb under wing to further their particular voter base when the truth is simply this: Said politicians would have never gone near Mr. Bruce were he alive today. End of story.

So, if these assholes want to use Mr. Bruce's tragedy to their political benefit then here, verbatim, is the text of the speech I want them to broadcast at any news conference where they make this announcement:

"Forty years ago, we fucked up royal. We prosecuted a man and drove the poor bastard to his grave for simply saying things that everyone thought anyway. We whipped out our dicks and fucked him up the ass worse than just about anyone we've come across.

"He was a true artist who wouldn't allow the stupidity of the government to censor his undeniable right to say what he wanted and to point out our idiocy--which continues to this day--in going apeshit over simple fucking words.

"We did everything in our power to show the world that the truth has no place in the state of New York as long as that truth runs contrary to lining the pockets of those in power. We wish to succor the vote of the idiot christians in our particular voting districts, and therefore will take any opportunity to show how moral we are, even if that includes ripping the fucking guts out of a visionary artist and wallowing in his destruction.

"We are spineless, gutless, assinine mother-fuckers and we deserve your scorn for our handling of Mr. Bruce."

Then, THEN, I FUCKING SAID, I'll buy into their happy horseshit.

Joseph Haines, signing off from The Edge of the Abyss.
