Today sucked. It could have sucked worse. Much worse. But it still sucked.

Marcelo left for GenCon yesterday morning, which leaves me home alone with Marc. This morning I was getting us ready and since there's no one else here to watch Marc while I shower, he showers with me. When I was done with my shower, I turned the water off but it still sounded like it was on. I went downstairs to investigate and found water shooting out from under the sink in the downstairs bathroom. I managed to shut the water off under there only to find that I was standing in about 2 inches of water. And that was only on the tile in the bathroom. The carpet outside the bathroom was soaked and there was a puddle already spread down the little hall and out into the living room. It was coming out from under the carpet onto the tile of the kitchen around the corner.

The whole time I'm investigating and trying to figure out what to do, Marc is poking at the water (he's still naked - thank goodness he didn't go on the floor) and telling me it's wet. He picks up each toy and tells me it's wet. When he tires of this, he starts going through his DVDs and asking to watch them. I finally managed to get him dressed and out of the house to day care so I could come back and deal with the mess. I soaked up the water in the bathroom with towels, then went to Home Depot. Luckily, they rent wet/dry vacs and carpet blowers so I didn't have to buy those. I also bought a dehumidifier. I call my dad and he starts reminding me that not only do I have to worry about damage to the carpet, but the water will get into the walls and mold. Great. And there's nothing like being 12 weeks pregnant and carrying a whole bunch of heavy equipment.

Anyway, my boss was very understanding and let me stay home today. I vacuumed up at least 5-10 gallons of water and it was still squishing up and puddling between my toes. Now I've got the carpet blowers set up to try to dry out the carpet and the dehumidifier running to help pull the water pushed into the air by the fans out so everything dries faster.

This is not how I planned to spend today. I can't even imagine what it would be like if it had happened while I was at work. And I'm glad it didn't happen in the middle of the night too.
