crying - weakness or dedication?

This drives me absolutely crazy. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/01/07/clinton.emotional/index.html?iref=topnews#cnnSTCText

Why is it that when one of the male candidates gets teary, it's perceived as dedication to his principles, demonstrates how important something is to him. But when a woman does, she's perceived as weak?

The summary of the story says "Clinton begins talking about how others have criticized her, gets emotional", but reading the quote, she gets choked up talking about how important the job of being president is. ""You know, I have so many opportunities from this country, I just don't want to see us fall backwards," she said, her voice breaking a bit."

And the quote from one of her rivals about it?

""I think what we need in a commander in chief is strength and resolve, and presidential campaigns are a tough business, but being president of the United States is also a very tough business.

"And the President of the United States is faced with very, very difficult challenges every single day, difficult judgments every single day.""
