The one question I've been dreading almost as much as the "where do babies come from" question is the one I got last night. As I was putting Marc to bed, he asked "Mommy, can we get a dog?"

All the dog breeds I like could never live in our condo. My preferred breeds are German Shepherd, Beagle, and Border Collie. They all need room to run. We had the sweetest Shepherd/Border Collie mix when I was a kid. But she needed lots of walks and running and a backyard to roam in.

My in-laws just got a new dog - a Golden Retriever/Dachshund mix. So, I told him we'd see how he does with their dog and someday we might get our own. Right now, he's still afraid of it. I think he likes the concept of dogs but not the reality.
