Tis a Gift to be Simple, tis a gift to be free

I was going to write a whole post about the inauguration.

But Swan Tower beat me to it. Almost everything she says about it was what was inside me as I watched it on tv (I had gone into girl1's school to volunteer and the kids were watching it instead, so I got to see most of the good parts).

Including the part at the end where Swan Tower says she'll be praying for him and his family for the next four years. Me, too. Me, too.

But the single image that stands out, besides his great oratory style, is the musicians that played right before his oath of office.

I mean, ye gods, Yo-yo Ma? Itzhak Perlman? Anthony McGill? Arranged by John Williams? The three teachers in the room and I just looked at eachother in amazed shock when that was announced.

And what did they play?

'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free,

'Tis the gift to come down where you ought to be,

And when we find ourselves in the place just right,

'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

When true simplicity is gain'd,

To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,

To turn, turn will be our delight,

Till by turning, turning we come round right.

And I wanted to cry. Because YES! We are turning, turning, America, and maybe we'll come out a little more right this time.
