Top of the World, Ma!

After the obligatory year in review comes the obligatory New Year's Resolutions. A lot of my New Year's resolutions are pretty straight forward, I was previously already on track for some of them, but somehow lost my way. So..

In 2003, I resolve to...

First and foremost... finish things. I often take on projects and see them through to about 80%. So that last 20% is my first obstacle to overcome.

Get a Java Programmer Certification from Sun. I've been doing a lot of reading, but not really making a concerted effort or set a goal as to when I want to accomplish this. I think a realistic goal for me is to be certified by the end of Q1. :)

To get my 1st degree Black Sash in Hwa Rang Do. I don't know that I can physically do this in 2003, but I'm going to give it my best. I may just literally not have enough time to learn all of the information, but if I don't make it in 2003, then early 2004 for sure!

Officially launch JournalScape.com. It's working, and it's mostly pretty, but this falls into that 80% category. I need to power through that last 20% so that I can actually tell people it's a full release. New features will always come, but we need to move from version 0.9 to version 1.0.

Learn More Korean. Jenn and I are taking a trip to Korea late in 2003 and I want to have at least rudimentary skills by then. Be able to ask for bathrooms, food, help, etc. :) Light conversation of the "hey look I can say hi in Korean" level would be nice too. :)

Take a larger part in Jakarta James open source project. I've started dabbling with James, but in very trivial ways. By the end of the year I'd like to be a major contributor to the project.

Improve my reliability. I don't have the greatest memory in the world for remembering things that need to get done on a daily basis. I want to improve that so that I don't constantly get things done late or at the 11th hour. I also have a few issues with computers and backups. I know that I should have backups for everything, but it takes me way to long to set them up. (Don't worry, JournalScape has been around long enough that I've gotten over my slowness and it is backed up on a nightly basis... so don't worry. :) )

Stop biting my nails. It's a small thing to do, but it's really important. During my last couple of months at Hosting.com the stress really got to me and I started biting them... now I can't stop. No... I will stop. Starting now. :)

Lose the Gut. I'm 6'2" and 235 lbs right now, but that really doesn't matter to me. I don't care what my weight is, I just want to get rid of my big stomach. I'd like to be able to wear clothes that are form fitting on my chest without having to suck my gut in all the time.

Eat Better. This includes eating smaller portions, eating better quality foods (less processed stuff, less candy, etc, and eating a wider variety of foods.

I don't have to resolve to be happy, because I already am that. I'm a very lucky person and I'm really looking forward to this year and all of the new things that it will bring.

Happy New Year!
