This time of year the jacaranda trees reach full glory, painting the skyline purple along many city streets in the area. As their blossoms fall off, the sidewalks and streets take on a new color scheme, quite to my liking, especially when I get to cycle through it.

We planted our own jacaranda tree last spring, and much to my amazement it blossomed last week. This relatively scraggly thing may some day rival others in the neighborhood and take on a glorious view-hogging aspect. For now, we're just happy it's still alive.

Looking up at the top of our jacaranda tree.

Shelley's roses continue to bloom as well.

As does Shelley herself.
