Over the years, my students have made some comments to me that prove that they are very comfortable with me. At least, that's how I try to take it.

You look like hell. - Indeed, this has to be one of my favorites. I tell myself it's a sign of concern and caring usually confined to those days when I'm not feeling well, and not just general feedback on my appearance.

You look warm and cozy today. - This is a recent comment. My office can get very cold, so no matter how warm it is outside, I frequently wear sweaters and the like. So, I guess I can have a cozy appearance.

You were intimidating until I got to know you. - Um, thanks?

Why does your face turn red in office hours? - Well, my face does NOT turn red in office hours, but you can bet that it did every time that particular student was in my office after that.

I'd like to take Dr. Will home with me. - That's not nearly as bad as it sounds. Apparently I did a very good job soothing a math-phobic student and talking up his abilities, etc... I guess he appreciated my efforts. Of course, he blurted this loudly during a lab and all of the other students laughed. I do admit, my face turned red THEN.

Love ya - Said by a student as he left lab one night. I guess it's better than other things he could have said.
