I know, I know...around me EVERY day is Science Day, but...

Today at the community college we hosted a "Science Day" for around 300 fifth grade students. It was manned by faculty and student volunteers. The visiting students had a chance to make rocket cars, play with bubbles, pet reptiles, dig rocks...all sorts of fun (yet not necessarily educationally sound) activities to get them interested in going to college. It was a lot of fun, but I'm exhausted. Wave after wave of expectant fifth graders can be quite daunting.

To attract participants, we sent flyers to local elementary schools. We had decided to cap the event at 300 students, just due to space and cost considerations. What we didn't expect is that we would be turning away classes containing over 700 students. So many teachers were eager to give their students a taste of science that either the school or the teacher were unable to provide. We've started a waiting list for the next "Science Day."
