I've been sick the past few days, and Greg has been taking wonderful care of me. Mmm...homemade hot chocolate in bed...

Went to see a musical last Friday night. Two out of the eight actors were students of mine. One injected the line, "I love the study of astronomy," because he knew I was there. And he's a former student, so he wasn't actively sucking up.

I have several students straight from Japan this semester. One of them had her notebook open during lab and was looking at the notes from class on September 11. She had written September 11 in big bold letters and had doodled American flags all over the page. I just thought that was kind of sweet.

I witnessed a student using his calculator to multiply by "1" this week. Sigh.

A colleague had a student ask, in all seriousness, "Why don't you design a test with an average of 95%?" Join me in boycotting bridges built since 1990. In the future, I'll be one of those old cranks who doesn't trust "them youngsters." Hell, I'm already one of those cranks. The "self-esteem-grading" generation is in our colleges.
