The following was an item from our campus safety update today:

"December 3 at 1:38 pm-A student drove her 1988 Dodge passenger car into the employee lot south of the LS building after noticing smoke coming from under the hood. College Safety student officers responded and were able to control the spread of the engine fire using fire extinguishers until Mesa Fire Department personnel arrived. There was extensive damage to the student's car. No other vehicles in the area were damaged. "

Hey, that corroborates the student who came into class at 1:35pm and said that her car was on fire. Nice to see confirmation of that excuse, because it was definitely a new one.

Of course, hearing a student announce that to the class was just as surreal as the experience I inflicted upon an unsuspecting student today. A wandering student poked his head into my classroom as I was spinning on a platform, demonstrating angular momentum conservation. That was a bit odd. My students were amused.

But then again, they're always laughing at me.
