| 2004-04-18 3:40 PM Space stuff Mood: I like space stuff! Read/Post Comments (0) | As part of my job, I had to look up some new images of galaxies and Saturn this past week. I know, my life is rough. I thought I'd share some pretty images with you all: The Cassini spacecraft will be entering orbit of Saturn on July 1 - I'm thinking of throwing a party, I'm so excited. Why am I so excited? Check out the images it's already sending back! This image was taken at a distance from Saturn corresponding roughly to one-third the average Earth-Sun distance:
And it can already spy Prometheus and Pandora shepherding the F-ring. Both moons are less than 70 miles in size, by the way.
My dear beloved Hubble Space Telescope takes the most amazing galaxy images. Here's a relatively new one of nearby NGC 300 - stars like grains of sand in another galaxy:
And this image shows one galaxy in front of another:
However, my favorite may well be these colliding galaxies:
Okay, so it's not a galaxy or Saturn, but if you look at the latest images from the SOHO spacecraft this weekend, you can see a bright comet plunging towards the Sun!
