Stolen from Tim Pratt - 10 things I've done that you probably haven't:

1. Spent a good part of my childhood riding in fire trucks, speeding down an Air Force Base runway, with sirens blaring. Ah, the privileges of being a fireman's daughter.

2. Showed up to my junior high school graduation wearing the same cheap dress that the girl ahead of me was wearing. Got to hear the whole audience laugh. Sigh.

3. Had some ill-behaved skin cells removed as the dermatologist discussed preferences for Hefeweisen with Greg.

4. Have walked around the inside of a stripped down 747 as it was being prepared to turn into an airborne observatory. (I know at least one person who reads this journal who has done this, too.)

5. As a grad student, had a telephone conversation advising about asteroid impacts with an Arizona novelist with the last name Cussler.

6. Shared part of an observing run with a Jesuit priest at an observatory co-owned by the Vatican.

7. Wrote and delivered the eulogy for my father. (Still the thing I'm most proud of.)

8. In a span of about 8 hours, I taught a physics recitation and a physics lab, held office hours, and defended my dissertation. Boy, does that story prove useful when my TAs complain about having too much work.

9. Convinced a university to renumber its astronomy course offerings from junior-level to freshman-level courses by arguing that they did not meet up to national standards of the rigor of junior-level astronomy courses.

10. Changed the filters in the filter wheel of a 90-inch telescope with the Imperial March blasting in the dome.
