counting chains

Avadore and I sat down and I showed him a calendar. I showed him where today was and where his birthday was, which was marked on the calendar. We counted how many days there were between now and his birthday. I tried, again (because we've done this before), to explain what a day is and what a night is, using his sleep schedule.

We got some construction paper and cut out fifteen strips of paper and then taped them together, making a chain. I showed him how when he gets up in the morning he can remove a chain and we'll count how many days are left until his birthday.

Then we got out candles and talked about how many he'll have on his cake (four) and which ones would he like. We also counted how many candles we have.

He seems to be coping, except that now he's also saying he wants a party :).

It's all Elmo's fault. I'm sure of it.
