"elf aware" and updatery

by K. Tempest Bradford is up at Podcastle.

Rachel Swirsky, Podcastle's editor, e-mailed Thursday to ask if I could do a quick rush read for this week. My friend and CW classmate Christopher Reynaga, who has also read for Podcastle, let me use his equipment to record the reading that night.

I'm here in Northern California. It's hard. I miss my kids horribly, and I'm still trying to find a job so that I can make a home for them so they can have a home with their mom and their dad. But it's also good. I'm making a good life, and for what else (other than to be with my kids and find a job) could I ask?

I wrote on the beach in Santa Cruz this week, and then wrote at Caffe Pergolesi. Classmate Chris Reynaga (who you'll recall from paragraph one), classmate Owen Salisbury, and I saw Cory Doctorow (who was one of my CW instructors) last week. He remembered us, and it was awesome to visit with him again and meet his fabulous wife. We also got to meet Rudy Rucker, who was just delightful and will be teaching at CW this year. Last weekend Chris and I saw Cherie Priest, who was one of our mystery muses and fairy godmothers at CW, read at Borderlands in San Francisco.

Sometimes it's like Old Home Week :).

These visits are lovely, especially for a girl speculative fiction writer from Idaho who spent so much time feeling isolated and alone. Though there was benefit for that in some ways when it came to my writing, it wasn't beneficial in other ways.

Thirty-three is a good year to start over.
