Well, today the time gap between my 8:00 class (which gets out at 11:00) and my 2:00 class has seemed unbearably long. I don't have much to do to prepare for the afternoon class - all I need to do is create a few discussion forums and we're on our way - and although I could always be doing grading, I'm not in the mood at the moment. Really, I feel quite bored; I'm not sure what I'd do if I could do whatever I wanted; I think I just might be bored no matter what. It's one of those days when I feel like . . . like, I dunno, spending money or eating chocolate or going for a long, exhausting bike ride - something to flush out the making-me-bored toxins in my brain and boost those epinephrines, or something.

It's turned into a perfect Indian-summer day out there: temps in the mid-60s and the sunshine (wan though it seems) is cheering and warming. So I decided to take a short spin on the bike (and realized I should equip myself really to take advantage of these days: I need a change of clothes and a bike helmet always at the ready . . . ).

I pedaled up to Elderly Instruments and poked around for a while, mostly looking at electric guitars. (Charles is making noises about wanting one, and I think this would be a dandy Christmas gift for him.) I perused the CDs for a while and found a bunch that I'd like. I eyed the backpacker's guitar, but I realized that I was wishing I could play the guitar sufficiently to entertain myself, not wishing I could buy one (so much). (Although it would be a nifty little item for bike trips! And I could have gotten it back to my office very handily!)

So then I doubled back south on the river trail, and stopped at the Lansing City Market. It reminded me of the W.W. Boyce Farmer's Market in Fredericton, actually - not nearly the hustle and bustle, but the same kinds of buildings, and there were meat vendors as well as the veggie folks. And lots of crafts, this time of year. I discovered that there's a Middle Eastern booth where I'm going to get lunch next time I want lunch on the hoof, and there's also a Chinese stand. Again, I didn't buy anything . . .

I briefly considered stopping at the bike store on Shiawassee, but decided it would pose too big a risk; I couldn't imagine getting out of there without making a purchase, so I continued on my way . . .

Now there's less than an hour until my class, so I guess I'll get everything ready and maybe grade some papers. Just a few more hours and I can head home for a bike ride in earnest!
