Well, gee. Just a short entry, here, to say that Portfolio Pandemonium was fun. It was nice talking to students other than my own, completely freed of the grading imperative. The experience has actually caused me to re-think writing center work; maybe I'd like it better than I thought.

Of course, it was also a little bizarre to have the experience of suggesting particular revisions to people, only to be told things like, "I did that, but my instructor told me to take that out," or "The last person I talked to this evening suggested something completely different." On the one hand, that was discouraging, because I really didn't want to lead people astray; but on the other hand, it was encouraging because I do think that each reader offers idiosyncratic perspectives and you can't ever offer people the "right" answer. But that probably wasn't a comfort for the people who came seeking it!

Today, though, I'm outrageously tired. I got to Louise's at about 12:30 and went immediately to bed, but I was keyed up from having spent the previous five hours talking to people, so it took a while to fall asleep. I should have stayed up grading things for my 8:00 class, but really. How possible would that have been, especially since I'd gotten up early to grade things for my Monday afternoon class??

So now I have to get through the papers for my class that meets at 2:00. I wish wish wish I'd commented on them over the weekend, like I was intending to do. Too late to cry about that, though, so I better just get down to it . . . when I emerge at 4:00 at least the steepest part of the mountain will be behind me . . .
