It's a good day today. The sun is shining, I just finished teaching, and the weekend is my oyster, as it were. Okay - so I have four hours of meetings tomorrow . . . but meetings are not like teaching; meetings can be attended (and productively contributed to!) by the Lizard Brain, whereas teaching, well. In terms of alertness, teaching bears a lot of resemblance to watching a toddler next to a busy street, or to jazz improvisation, or a whole host of other things that require higher-order cognitive abilities.

Which is why the weekend starts on Thursday for me, irrespective of what happens on Friday.

So I'm starting my weekend thinking about shoes. Specifically: What shoes shall I take to England? Today I'm wearing a new pair of clogs for the first time. They'd be great going through security (since they slip on & off, ya know), and wonderful on the plane . . . but will I really be able to trek through London on these puppies? So do I need a different pair for trekking through London? And will trekking shoes be acceptable at the theatre? (Generally speaking, when it comes to theatre, I figure that given the price of the tickets, I should be allowed to show up wearing whatever I want.)

And what about running shoes?? Can I actually go a week without training of any sort? I should take running shoes . . . but am I really going to go to England for seven days with three pairs of shoes??? Will I look stupid if I go running?

Will I look stupid in general? Last time I went, I arrived wearing turquoise slacks and a pink sweater, and it was as if I was wearing a sandwich board flashing AMERICAN! AMERICAN!. I don't want to make that mistake again . . . but I have a dearth of black and gray clothes, I'm afraid . . .

Oh, well. It's only seven days. Whatever I wear, I won't look silly for long. And, in the grand scheme of things, this is a wonderful problem to have . . . :)
