Grr. I dropped my phone last night, and now the screen is all screwy. The phone still works - but dialing has become a two-handed job, since, being a PDA phone, it has a keyboard instead of a numeric keypad. (It also has a keypad display, but half the numbers are no longer displaying, nor are the numbers on my speed-dial display.)

I spent a little time last night surfing around to see what it would cost to replace the phone. The bottom line: Too Much. For a couple of hundred dollars, I could get a Treo 600 from eBay - but we have other, more important expenses than that. If I just sign on the dotted line for two more years with Sprint, I can get a rebate on a new phone - but I have to pay for it up front first, which would also be a few hundred dollars. AS I looked around and thought about it, I decided that the only thing I want in a phone is - a phone. No camera, no PDA (I love the idea of PDAs, but you know, I just don't use them), no web browser . . . just a phone. So my plan right now is to see if I can find the charger for my old phone, and see if it'll accept a charge, and if so, just use it.

Classes start today. My first class meets in a few minutes . . . I'm feeling a little queasy. I'm guessing it's a holdover from last fall, which was such a shock. I've got everything ready to go, though, so that's good - last year I got way behind very quickly and didn't even know it. I do need to be a few more steps ahead of the game. That's my plan for the weekend: Getting ahead.

I brought the folding bike today, and parked in a lot a few blocks away. I've been thinking about trying to find a lot on the River Trail so I can have a scenic ride to campus. There's a lot in Old Town that might fill the bill. Actually, a bike ride of 1-2 miles to campus would be really nifty, I think. Old Town is a bit close for that. I'm going to keep looking. I know I can do this winter and summer, since I've done that kind of commute before . . . (Maybe on nice days I could park at Potter Park, or something. That would be a nice ride. Of course, I've gotta worry about the safety of leaving the car there all day. Sigh. I could go to Frandor, but the ride from there downtown is ghastly . . . hmm . . . )

Ah, well. Time to go to class. WIsh me luck!
