Oops. I saved that last entry before its time.

I was going to say, Mackinac was fun. We walked - yes, that's right, walked - around the island on Friday night after dinner. It was really fun . . . the road was all dark and there were a million stars, and once we got past town we didn't encounter anybody.

We rode around the island on bikes on Saturday, and had the same experience once we got away. It was really wonderful; I can't remember ever getting such a feeling of isolation up there.

We also rode horses on Saturday - so we definitely got our exericse.

Lots of details, and I know that's just the bare bones outline . . . I didn't do as much reading as I might have, but I figured that would be the case, and it was fine. The weather was crisp and cold, but sunny. We stayed two nights on the island, which only made me want to stay a week. Or live there. I remember thinking it would be wonderful to stay there on sabbatical . . . and now there's even wireless internet up there, so it would be possible to stay and actually work. Of course I would want to go in the dead of winter.

Anyhow . . .

I also got this picture today. I showed Charlie an article about video games in the New York Times today - and he read the whole thing. (As I said to Emma, he tries to pretend he's not literate but every now and again he slips up.) Shoot, I thought, I better get my camera. I really like this picture; I wanted a portrait to put in one segment of the frame he got me for my birthday, and this one turned out nicely, I thought. The original photo was a little blurry so I added some grain and a layer with some color . . .

The boy could be one of the mop tops . . .
