One of the most interesting aspects of my family-in-law is the relationship between Emil, Sr., and his brothers. There were four brothers, and they did practically everything together all their lives. Three of the four remained in the family home; as young adults the brothers participated together in local golf tournaments (winning an impressive lot of them) and various other sporting events; as adults they undertook several business ventures, including a fruit stand, a hot dog stand, a Burger King (before the name was trademarked), and two nightclubs, before hitting upon a business doing concrete finishing work.

I've got three items on my hard drive that show the brothers doing their thing together. The first two are recordings (from the late 40s? Early 50s? Come on, I should know this . . . ) made in the Isle of Capri nightclub. (The brothers didn't have a band, exactly; they played music because they liked to play, and the ability came in handy at a nightclub.) The quality is not bad, considering that the original recordings are 78s made of cardboard that were stored for fiftysomething years in the basement over at The House . . .

Joe - Drum Solo

The Shiek - that's Uncle Rudy on the sax.

And the third item is a movie I took when Em, Charlie, and I went down to Youngstown to pick up the Mitsubishi. (Warning to family members: This is hard to watch right now.)
