Well, in a not entirely surprising turn of events, Joe, who has been hospitalized three times since we've been going to Youngstown to care for Emil, Sr, has joined the hospice rolls. I didn't get a diagnosis from anybody, but my understanding is that he's had repeated fluid buildup in his chest cavity; I think it's due to congestive heart failure, and he's too weak for them to operate. He's 91 years old, so this is not surprising.

Kathy and Emil went over to 'the House' yesterday when Uncle Joe was released, to help deliver the news. Emil wasn't sure whether Aunt Betty realized the full implications; I hope she's not overwhelmed when the hospice nurse comes out today.

Emil is still planning on coming home today, but it's starting to look like Kathy may be down there forever . . .

This has really been an incredible winter. I'm so-ooo looking forward to spring!
