Well, I started this entry yesterday in the airport:

Okay, I'm a sucker for computing in airports. Actually, I was one of the first people I knew to send email while in flight . . . At the moment I'm sitting at Detroit Metro, waiting for my plane (which was delayed by 20 minutes) to leave.

Clarence, if you're reading this, send your cell phone number. I am expected to make my connection in Dallas, but you never know how these things will go.

It's in the 90s in Texas this week. Way too hot for my liking! But I have duly brought my bathing suit, and I am fully prepared to have a good time. (Never mind that the peonies in the back yard are getting ready to bloom . . . ) I'm pleased to be boot-free; my toe was Certified As Healed on Friday, so I'm clomping around in regular shoes. I got out for a bike ride today - just half an hour of spinning through the neighborhood; no idea how far I went - and boy, did it feel good. But the toe is hurting now, alas.

There will be exercise facilities in the hotel, and I'm hoping to get in a lap swim before Wednesday. It feels so good to be able to exercise again!

Well, the wireless connection seems to have dropped (why does this not surprise me? Why are my expectations of the Detroit airport so low??), so I'll save this to send later . . .

And I'm here today to say that I made it to Austin after a long delay in Dallas-Ft. Worth: There were problems with the hydraulic system to one of the engines, so we sat and sat while they got that issue resolved. (I was hoping they'd just trot out a different plane; I can't say I like it much when they fix the plane while I'm sitting on it.) At any rate, the problem finally got fixed, we finally took off, and we arrived in Austin at about 8:30 pm. I've never been here before, and since I arrived as darkness was falling, I don't have much of an impression. All I've seen so far is the inside of Clarence and Susan's house, which is very nice . . .

But mostly the point is to visit with Clarence and Susan. We stayed up probably too late talking last night, and will likely do the same again tonight. They're just wonderful friends, the kind with whom you can pick up right where you left off, no matter how long ago you left off. The only visible indication that any time has passed is that their children have gotten noticeably older . . .

I have a bit of work to do for the Computers and Writing conference at the end of the week, so I've been doing that this morning. In an hour or so Susan is going to fetch me and deliver me to Peg, with whom I'm having lunch . . . and then I'll wander around the University of Texas campus. I'm going to get out for a walk before I leave here, though, so I can take some pictures of the neighborhood.

I better get back to it since I'm running out of time.
