Well, things grind along. I haven't exactly been feeling optimistic and cheerful lately, so I've been laying low . . . but the winds are starting to change a little, so that's good.

I've also been very busy. At some point a few weeks ago it dawned on me that teaching two classes in the summer semester is like teaching four classes in the regular semester - which would explain why I feel like summer is passing me by. But there's only ten days left for my online class, and three weeks for my B-School gig, so everything is winding down. Looks like I'm going to make it!

We close on the new house two weeks from today. That's before my face-to-face class is over, so I don't anticipate moving exactly when we close. There are many, many logistical matters to solve, and they are just going to have to wait a week. And, too, we're getting squeezed on the other end; fall classes start on August 20something. So it's going to be a rather busy, chaotic month . . . I'm looking forward to getting settled and starting the fall semester.

I did manage to get in a long bike ride a week or so ago, which was really fun and reminded me about why I like riding my bike. And my legs are getting stronger because I've been riding to campus and back several times a week, which will put me in good shape for a bike commute after we move. I've gotta start swimming, though . . . unfortunately, I teach at noon in the fall, so I won't be able to do laps in the LCC pool.

In a spot of really good news, Emil had a job interview yesterday for a job in downtown Lansing. If he gets it, we'll both be within 3 miles of work. (Hey. We could get a tandem.) Of course, the job itself sounds a little screwy - but in the worst-case scenario, he takes it and keeps looking. It's always better to look for a job from a job . . . And it's hard to see the down side of having enough money, especially since we'll own two houses pretty soon . . . we've had one person look at our house, but there are three on the street in the same price range (and soon to be four, I've heard), so we could be owning this one for some time to come. Then again, someone could fall in love with it tomorrow. Cross your fingers . . .

In other news, I saw a cartoon in Inside Higher Ed this morning, and was prompted to check out the artist's other cartoons. Here's my favorite. Enjoy!
