Now here's a funny headline . . .

From the New York Times, again: "Bush Declares Iran’s Arms Role in Iraq Is Certain." Ha, ha. He was certain about those weapons of mass destruction, too. Does he really suppose anyone's going to believe him??

Seriously, though, I had a completely scary thought a few days ago: What if the Democrats do not win the next election??? I'm unconvinced that, even if they do, the picture in Iraq is going to get much better, since quagmires have a way of sucking you in . . . but if the Republicans win, it could all get much, much worse. Sad to say, but I fear that Hillary and Barack will duke it out for the Democratic nomination, and one of them will get it . . . and the sad part is, although I'd happily vote for either of them, I believe that they're both unelectable. (Let us not forget the power of the Republican Right. Twelve people who opposed gay marriage swayed the last election . . . )

Oh, well. I don't need to worry about that quite yet . . .

It's a gorgeous, sunny day here and I've got one more student conference, then I'm heading out to the Park Formerly Known as Grand River Park to get in some skiing. We're supposed to hit the mid-30s by the end of next week, which could very well be the end to winter(ette) in these parts. So I better get out on the boards while I still can.

I have been having an extraordinarily pleasant week. Since I only teach one class face to face (on Monday and Wednesday), and German is also on those days, I have three days a week when I don't have to get all geared up to go in the classroom. I'm on top of the work for my online classes; and our new contract specifies that we only have to be on campus three days a week. I'm mostly there more (this week it'll be all five days), but [a] I feel quite justified in only hanging around long enough for my office hour; and [b] what difference does coming to campus really make when you only drive five minutes to get here?? On Tuesday morning, as I was sitting in my home office responding to papers, drinking my coffee, listening to WKAR (classical music) and looking out at the snow, I thought, "Gee, I have an easy life!" Been a lo-oong time since I've felt that way, and the feeling is most welcome, indeed.

Hope everyone else is having a pleasant week, too.
