The election

Some of you may have noticed that there's an election coming up here in the good ol' U.S. of A, and that I have said precious little about it.

I don't usually tend to say much about politics, because [1] I usually don't have the facts at my command, and [2] I usually think the whole thing is a circus, anyway. And this time, that's been an especially hard thought to shake. I pretty much tossed in the towel this time around when McCain named Palin as his veep - this happened right when we returned from China and I was already dazed and confused - but it seemed so blatantly to say, "So you're a black man? Going to get the liberal swing vote on your skin color?? Well HA! I give you a WOMAN! Discuss among yourselves who's more oppressed!!" that the whole charade just seemed more obvious than usual. (We could talk about "super delegates," if you like. Or one person, one vote . . . except for districting and redistricting and losing ballots and messing with ballots and not letting people have ballots . . . )

Happily, this time around I've been spared from making a statement, and yet I have a statement to offer you: Check out Ben's entry over there at Horselover Fat. (It's the first entry on October 25. You may have to scroll to read it. It's called "Don't Blame Me, I Voted for Kodos!" (I especially like Ben's observation re: the bailout that in this country, loss can be nationalized but profit must stay private.) I couldn't have said it all better myself, Ben. In fact, I really couldn't have said it. So I'm very glad you did.

So if you're wondering how I'm voting in this election: I'm voting FOR the Capital Area Transit Authority millage (I like public transportation) and then I'm . . . probably writing in "Hello, Kitty." Or something. (If all the McCain yard signs around here in my neighborhood don't spook me into voting Democrat . . . maybe the yard signs are just Halloween decorations . . . )
