best supporting actor in a comedy, best dramatic television show, best actress in a supporting role for dramatic television show.....blah blah blah blah blah

Few awards on this show actually mattered to me:

1. Peter Jackson and "LOTR:ROTK" desserve every award they have coming their way and I'm absolutely thrilled to see them win these awards. I think that it really says a lot about how good these movies really are, that they are being recognized by the different award shows. I couldn't be happier that they won.

2. Sofia Coppola, Bill Murray, and "Lost in Translation" desserve every award they have coming their way. It was just an excellent movie all the way around and am glad that it's doing well at the Golden Globes. I think that Sofia Coppola has a very new and distinct directorial voice, and look forward to seeing everything that comes from her directors chair.

That's really all that mattered to me at this show. I would have liked to have seen "Big Fish" win, but "Lost In Translation" was excellent as well. So apples and oranges.

The Oscar nominations get announced on Tuesday. It's a race between 2 films in my mind. My pre-Oscar Nominations Announcement Prediction is as follows:

1. Best Picture--LOTR:ROTK For the three films that he puts across, he desserves this award and then some.

2. Best Director--Peter Jackson. He'll win, but I don't see it as a sure thing. I think it's a lot closer than people think. I think there is a slight possibility of an upset here from either Anthony Minghella or Sofia Coppola.

3. Best Screenplay--Sofia Coppola. That's a for sure thing in my eyes. Voters will sometimes not give the big awards to movies like "Lost in Translation" so they'll give other awards (screenplay) to the film instead. I think this is a lock.

4. Best Adapted Screenplay--Cold Mountain. I haven't seen the movie, so I'm going solely on instinct.

The acting awards are anyone's game but I think that

Bill Murray will get nominated. It's going to be a race between Bill Murray and Sean Penn. All other's are pushed aside.

I think that the best supporting actress/actor are going to be where you find your major upsets. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Sean Astin (LOTR) or that Japanese dude from "Last Samurai" take the trophy.

Time will tell. :)

p.s. Mom and I made a non-money wager on the winner of the best picture Golden Globe. She pulled for "Cold Mountain," I pulled for "LOTR:ROTK." If she won, I HAD to go to the dentist this month and take part of a cheap deal they had going on, instead of waiting until about March or so. If I won, I wanted her to compose a poem for me. I'm already looking forward to reading it. ;-)

matt out again
