Different Political Standards

Somewhere between loading up my salad bowl with tomatoes and mushrooms, a question randomly popped into my head. I wondered if people hold liberals to different knowledge standards than conservatives. What I mean is, is that it seems that more people are prone to jump on liberals who don't know why they're liberals than they are to jump on people who don't know why they're conservatives. It was a minor epiphany of sorts, and the more I thought about it, the more I wondered how true it is and if it'd hold up in an argument.

Maybe I should elaborate. It seems that more people are willing to jump on liberal minded people if they don't know why they're liberal. I hear it all the time on pundit shows like Bill O'Reilly's show. He talks about the simple minded liberals who are liberals just because their parents are, or just because that's the environment they live in. But you never hear people talk about John and Susie Q Waxahachie who are conservative just because they grow up in a small town. Do people hold liberals to a different standard, or am I off base? Thoughts?
