Oh how I wish I was in Boston right now. It seems like everyone in Boston is having a grand ol' time at the convention.

I didn't catch the live broadcast of any of the convention and instead had to catch it all on the CSpan replay later in the evening.

Is there a cooler former President than Jimmy Carter? He's like a combination of Mister Rogers and Jimmy Stewart, mixed with a peanut farmer. I really liked his speech and thought that it was a crying shame that Reagan was able to beat Jimmy Carter in 1980. I think that it was probably a case of style over substance, but that's neither here nor there I guess. I think that things could have been radically different if Jimmy Carter had been re-elected in 1980 instead of ousted.

If Al Gore had spoken in 2000 like he's spoken in the past few years, he'd be our president right now. He's really come to life, and seems to have returned to his liberal roots. I really liked his speech. What I really got from his speech was that it's okay to still be angry about the 2000 election, but that it'd be more beneficial to channel that energy into this current campaign.

Bill Clinton is a friggin political rock star. No one can work a room like Bill Clinton. He really knows how to push the right buttons and knows all the ins and outs of a good political speech. What I really dug about his speech was that he seemed to be pretty honest with the crowd. Whether it's sincere or not, I liked how he took a couple of shots at himself for being in that top 2% of wealthy Americans and for dodging the draft. But beyond that, I liked how we worded it into a supportive stance for Kerry.

All last night really was, was a good introduction to the week's worth of events. There was a little substance, but make no mistake about it, last night was about rolling out the big hitters and getting the party energized for the rest of the week.

Can't wait to hear Kucinich and Dean and Sharpton.

matt out
