Non-Matrix/SW/LOTR Pop Culture Question of the Day

Thought I'd take a break for a bit and do a different question.

Today's question:

Of all the thousands of celebrities that have made their way to Springfield, which Simpsons cameo was the best?

I've gotta go with Paul McCartney's cameo on the vegetarian episode, although all of the Beatles cameo were pretty clever. Many times, especially now, cameos on the Simpsons feel really forced and out of place for the episode. But the McCartney cameo seemed to come pretty naturally in the episode. It was clever that Apu would have had a garden on top of his store (accessable only through the non-alcoholic beer door), where his friend "from the Maharishi days" sought refuge from the daily grind.

It's hard to imagine our pop culture being the way it is now without the Beatles. And it's hard to imagine our pop culture being the way it is without the Simpsons. To combine the two was almost a form of geek paradise. :-)

The vegetarian episode is a bona fide Simpsons classic. It's case proof that the Simpsons *used* to have shows that didn't wonder all over the map, and wasn't afraid to show a little heart. And not only was McCartney's cameo great, he let the Simpsons use one of his songs (Maybe I'm Amazed) as Lisa rode home on Homer's back. AND...they put "a kickin' Lentl Soup recipe" at the tail end of the song.

So my money goes with Mac. But there are hundreds of cameos that were pretty awesome.

Your thoughts?
