I don't have much to say, so I won't say much. Apathy. Apathy won this amendment's passage. Not apathy by the religious right of this state, but apathy on the part of the rest of the state. Word is that religious groups were taking BUSES filled with people to the polling places. If that's the case, then only one conclusion can be made; that the results don't show an accurate representation of how the state truly feels on the issue. But it's a moot point anyway because of voter apathy leading to a less than stellar voter turnout.

Which leads me to say that liberal non-voters can kiss my ass. To be a liberal non-voter in this state is just lame. I understand not voting for a candidate, because god knows, there aren't many good ones these days. But this was an "issue" vote. This was a yes/no vote. And for a liberal to not vote...why you might as well cast a vote for the other side. Travis county, which is one of the most liberal counties in the state, only had 25% voter turnout. That's just BAD! But it was that way across the state as well.

I have another post brewing. That should be released sometime tonight. But in the meantime, I'm posting the results for Travis County and the state at large. If there is a silver lining, it's that I live in the ONLY county to vote against the constitutional amendment. But that silver lining is a millimeter thick in that only 25% of this so called liberal county turned out to vote.

Travis County

IN FAVOR total votes 54,198 40.04%
AGAINST total votes 81,144 59.95%
----------- -----------
Total Votes Cast 135,342
*County Turnout 25.16% 537,774 Registered Voters

---------------------------------------------------------

Statewide

AGAINST 534,350 23.85%
--------------- ---------------
Total Votes Cast 2,240,930
* Statewide Turnout 17.82% 12,577,545 Registered Voters
