Thanks to a gift certificate from Amazon via mi Madre, I now own the first season of "Lost." I've watched the first few episodes, and all I have to say is wow!

This show is by far one of the best shows on television. Like most great shows, it keeps getting better and better as the episodes progress.

It takes different elements from captivity dramas, science fiction stories, monster movies, conspiracy bound plots, and person to person dramas, and blends them all together into one outstanding show.

As I said in a different post last week, if the movie industry wants to see why they're losing money, they might want to look at the talents involved in "Lost." It's better written, better acted, and more engaging than most big-budget Hollywood movies out there.

One of my favorite parts of the show is that it really masters the sleight of hand. You'll think you know one thing about a character based on what's happened thus far in the episode or season, only to have those misconceptions dashed by something altogether unexpected. And usually, the show fills in those misconceptions with some ingenious character development or plot forwarding device.

Now I just gotta figure out what in the hell that monster is, and who in the hell that mysterious guy is that keeps appearing in the bushes...
