First off, I'm already sick of the Mark Foley mess. I'm going to follow the story because I think it's an important national story, but I'm already sick of the scandal.

What makes me even more agitated is "The Daily Show's" coverage of the scandal. I think TDS is a brilliant show, and more often than not, they're right on the money with their satire. But for crying out loud, I think they're really scraping the barrel with their coverage. First Monday, then Tuesday, last nigh Wednesday...are they going to cover this scandal ALL week? Aren't there better stories to cover.

And it's not just that they're covering it, it's that they're really using easy humor and cheap gags, instead of their ironic brilliance that we've all come to know and love.

----

"LOST: season 3" premiered last night. Anya and I recorded it on our DVR and watched it after watching last year's brilliant season 2 finale.

-tangent- Re-watching all of season 1 and 2 over the past month has been really great, but don't expect a repeat next summer. Watching that much LOST in the span of a month or so is a bit of a marathon. -tangent over-

I think right now, I'm a bit mixed on the premiere. I really dug the opening scene, especially the more I think about it. Just when you think the show can't surprise you anymore, they throw a bigger and better surprise than you could possibly imagine. When I initially saw the scene, I thought, what the f--k is this? I really dig that "the Others" really are a wacked out cult that lives in a suburbs on the island...Only on LOST.

But a lot of the show was a bit of a mish mash. I really dug all of the stuff with Sawyer and Kate, and I liked *most* of what was going on with Jack, but I didn't really like Jack's flashbacks all that much.

I thought Matthew Fox really stepped up to the plate with his acting, but I thought his flashback scenes were tonally off. I like that they showed that Jack Shepard is just as royally screwed up as the rest of the lost-a-ways, but I thought that it all seemed a bit "soap operish" to me. That being said, his flashbacks really made it obvious why Jack's mom wanted Jack to fly to Australia to save his dad. It's good to see that they're keeping their character arcs consistent.

I think what kind of has me worried is that I really hope that the story of "the Others" doesn't take away too much of "the island's" mystery. That's why I'm going to reserve too much judgment until I see where Eko, Desmond, and Locke's stories take us.

I mean, last night there was a line which said something to the effect of, "if you don't drink water, you're going to hallucinate." I hope that they don't explain a lot of the ghost appearances and weird sightings on the island in such simple terms. That's why I'm reserving judgment.

The LOST mythology is at a tipping point. I think they're going to juggle it well, because they haven't let me down before, but I hope the answers they give us aren't too obvious and easily explainable.

And on that, "I want some friggin' answers." These first 6 episodes (before their long break) better reveal some significant answers to what's going on. Here we are in season 3, and we still don't really know *that* much. We've gotten a lot of smallerish answers...I'm ready for some big ones. Or at least, I want at least one big answer before they go on their winter break.

So yeah, the show was great, but I am a little worried about where they're going with the show. The problem is that we have to wait a week or two or three or more before we know for sure. LOST wouldn't be LOST without this between episode obsession.
