"X-Men illustrator dies in Superman pajamas!"

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/28/comic.death.ap/index.html

The story that accompanies is actually quite touching, but initially seeing the headline made me laugh out loud at the computer.

I think that it's funny that there's a superhero hierarchy. Superman and Spiderman are *it.* Kids always come to the superhero comic book world through either Superman or Spiderman. I'd venture to guess that more kids gravitated towards Superman in 1985, whereas I'm sure it's more heavily in Spiderman's court in 2006.

When kids get into comic books, they are typically too young to truly get the complexities of the X-Men, The Punisher, or the Hulk, but there's something timeless and universal about wanting the ability to fly and to shoot red laser beams out of one's eyes. Who knows, the want to be all powerful and to be the one that all of humanity turns to in a time of crisis may even have a biological basis.

People say mythology is dead. It's not dead; Hercules just wears a cape now and he lives in Metropolis (Greek much?) instead of Athens.
