SANJAYA MANIA!

Even though I have yet to do so, I'm encouraging everyone who hates "American Idol" to vote for Sanjaya Malakar. I don't necessarily hate "American Idol," but I feel that it's become quite bloated and watered down in it's, what is this, 5th? 6th? year.

Sanjaya Malakar is the tone deaf "American Idol" (quarter-pounder) star who has inexplicably survived every elimination episode. Well, I shouldn't say "inexplicably" since his ... candidacy? stint? on "American Idol" has been endorsed by everyone from Howard Stern to fansite www.votefortheworst.com.

I think having "the worst" candidate win a show like "American Idol" would make for wonderful television. I would love to see the looks on everyone's face as the worst singer of the group walks away with the million dollar recording deal and all of the fame and glitz that AI brings. I'd really enjoy seeing if Simon Cowell would stick to his guns by "quitting the show" should Sanjaya be the one drowned during the confetti rainshower of the season finale.

I'm not sure if he has the juice to win a show like "American Idol." I mean, for "the worst" candidate to win "American Idol," the "vote for the worst" theme would have to really take hold, and I'm not sure that the television voting public has that much meanness in them. <---- I hate myself for typing that. If the voting public doesn't have enough sense of humor to pull something like this off, I think we're in worse shape than I thought.

Not to get all Dick Cheney on everyone, but I think American Idol may be in it's "last throes" as a television show. I really haven't seen much of the show this year, but from what I've seen, I feel comfortable saying that this year's crop of wannabes is by far the weakest group in terms of everything from singing abilities to star power. Where are the Kellly Clarksons? Where are the Taylor Hicks? Where are the Clay Aikens?

It seems to me that "American Idol," and every show from "America's Got Talent" to "Who Wants to Fuck a Rockstar," has pulled from the barrel one too many times. I mean, the singers are "okay," but...this season seems a bit lacking to me.

my two cents for this Wednesday

ps: I can't wait for LOST tonight. All of the spoiler blogs I read say that tonight's episode is going to begin a series of episodes that reveal a lot of answers that fans have had since season 1. I can't wait.

my two-point-five cents for this Wednesday

ps: Speaking of spoiler blogs, I have a (semi) celebrity crush on Kristen Veitch of "E! Spoiler Blogging" (semi) fame. Any woman who knows that much about LOST spoilers has the key to my "Others" protected heart.

my two-point-seventy-five cents for this Wednesday
