Weighing in on the Spurs-Suns Playoffs Series

Who would have thought that this series would have become the brawling series that it's become? We all knew that it was going to be a great series, but holy cow, this is almost as intense as the playoffs series of my youth, where the Knicks, Heat, Rockets, et al had players whose sole purpose was to hip-check people and throw elbows.

But in some ways, a lot of this physicality is all smoke and mirrors.

- The Nash and Parker forehead to the nose injury was a fluke, plain and simple. Not that the gNash wasn't physical, but we're a long way away from Anthony Mason here.

- Was Bowen trying to kick out Amare's feet? I don't think so, but one could make a point either way. To me, it looks like a bit of a slip where he couldn't decide if he was going to jump and block the shot or not. But here's the video for you to decide.

- The second Bowen appearance is his knee to gNash's junk. I think people who are getting worked up over this one are a tad on the lame side. If you see the replay, Nash was literally straddling his leg. There's no way he could have moved without it hitting Nash. It was a foul on Bowen, btw. That's playoff basketball for you, I suppose.

- Now we have the infamous Horry bodycheck of Steve Nash in the closing moments of Monday's game. I realize that it was a hard foul, but check out that nice little flop Nash did at the end. That's a flop of Ginobili magnitude. If you watch the replay, it's not much more than a hard foul. Watch some of the slow motion shots at the end of the clip. It was a hard hip check on the sideline. For all the fuss that's been made, you'd think he close lined Nash or something. I know he got suspended for the scrum that followed, but his hip check was really nothing to write home over.

Anywho. I'm pretty much avoiding the rest of the series. It's in some ways become about all the non-basketball stuff that it isn't much fun to watch at this point.

Plus, I can't stand the mediocrity of NBA officiating. The NBA has (BY FAR) the worst officiating of any sport that isn't soccer.

- Matt
