As usual, I have my iTunes up at work and is randomly selecting songs from the 8,000+ I have in my library. A couple of seconds ago, the song "Luke's First Crash" from the Empire Strikes Back comes on. It's your typical John Williams scored piece with lots of filler building up to heroic fanfares throughout its running time. Its the piece of music playing when Luke's snowspeeder crashes on Hoth.

It got me thinking about that scene and how cool it was. There is absolutely no better way to start that movie than having the Rebels have their asses handed to him. "A New Hope" ended with that great heroism and the awards ceremony and everyone's patting themselves on the back and winking at the cameras. And then the second movie begins with Luke and the Rebels crashing in the snow.

Stuff like that is what separates the kids from the adults. You can't be a serious mythological contender unless your heroes get their asses kicked from time to time.

And you can't be a serious mythological contender unless that hero stands up, wipes the blood from his face, and takes down a friggin' AT-AT Walker with a grappling gun, a lightsaber, and a well placed grenade.

Long live the bloodied hero!

ps: Is there any worse uniform to wear in snow than ORANGE???
