  • Charles Isherwood's review (in Monday morning's New York Times) of an actress in Cymbeline: "...she always sounds admirably Shakespearean, but only intermittently human."

  • There were football-sized papayas at a local store yesterday, and I couldn't resist bringing one home. After I said something outrageous, the BYM snatched it up and said, "Woman, I could kill you with this papaya!" (Think Ren from Ren and Stimpy and you'll have the appropriate accent.)

  • Giant papayas on display

  • Something I ate for lunch didn't agree with me, which I meant I ended up feeling fragile through most of the second half of the day. Feeling simultaneously hungry and queasy is a nuisance, but it wasn't an incapacitating one, so I inched my way through a heap of to-dos and am now sipping a bedtime glass of Prosecco. ;-)

  • Writing - tried to work in earnest on a poem tonight, but never got into the right groove. That said, the exercise netted me a couple phrases that might end up as the seeds of two new pieces, so I'll call it a victory.

  • Yesterday's colcannon - Tuesday night latkes! Happy Hanukkah!
