  • A friend insisted on treating me to breakfast at Sky Blue yesterday. In addition to good food and companionship (the conversation ranged from tattoos to quilting to "attawoman" rituals -- the last being her bedtime practice of reviewing the things she's done well that day), there were leftovers -- which the cafe boxed up in a compostable container and bag. "It looks like plastic, but it's made out of corn -- just be sure not to microwave it, since you'll end up with a pile of syrup." And the straw and cup for my smoothie are made out of the same material, so I can throw it all into the backyard bin. How cool is that?

  • The BYM and I spent last weekend in Louisville, where we caught 3/5 of Shakespeare In the Park's production of Pericles. (The show had to be halted due to a thunderstorm... which is oddly appropriate, although it aches not getting to see the ending.) I wasn't completely sold on the casting (too much doubling/tripling), direction (some of the clowning didn't work for me), or costuming, but there was also some very clever staging - the storm-at-sea scenes were marvelous (and also explained the dubious costuming of the opening act, which was blatant enough for me to whisper to the BYM, "Do you think there was a sale on that fabric?").

  • The BYM was frowning at the synopsis. He dislikes spoilers, so I asked, "What's wrong - it tells too much?" "No... it's just that this sounds really trashy."

    *glee*

  • We also went to the Cumberland Brewery (in the Highlands area). Mediocre salads, okay beer, great chocolate malt ice cream. (The malt is from the beer-brewing.)

  • In general news, work and estate stuffs are still eating me alive, but I've managed to push a number of items from "To Do" over to "Done" this week, and I'm even more excited than usual about many of the things in progress (books I've copyedited nearing publication, courses I've scripted going into production, etc.). I've also been feeling frumpy, slow and off-key, and my inner diva is working up a blowing-off-of-socks head of steam from being pent-up for so long, but the current chaos is definitely surmountable, provided I keep slogging on and through. So, overall, things are well with me, and there is happy mayhem on the horizon.

  • And, speaking of footwear, go Sox! :-D
