Christine Kane, on whether not having children = selfishness:

It is not selfish to choose to live how you want to live. It is selfish to expect other people to live how you want to live.

A week or so ago, I pulled a 1995 issue of the New Yorker to meander around while soaking. In it, Anthony Lane had this to say about Thomas Wyatt's "They Flee From Me" (1557): "one of those unnerving, time-warpy works which appear to have been written last Wednesday"

Indeed, and oh.

A set of Martha Silano poems appeared at No Tell Motel a week or so ago. I liked them (and her bio was engaging as well), and I am almost certainly going to want to use "Across the Universe" in a service at some point. Maybe even next month. It starts out with

I think I am here
to stare carefully at maps,

then get lost at least fifty times a year...

[Some of you are laughing your heads off already. I concede: yes, this is so very me. *sheepish*]
