Some sights savored but not photographed:

  • Two women sitting by the Seine at dusk, with their teddybears.

  • Dinner at Le Coude Fou, which had been recommended to us by several folks. I had duckling (canette) with a braised pear and "Gratin Savoyard" (really good scalloped potatoes); the BYM had a fish special (Filet du Sandre). Per "GG Mora" on a chowhound board, the name has several meanings (FWIW, I originally misheard its translation as "The Mad Oboe." At some point I might post about how what we expect to hear colors our incomprehension, but not today.)

  • Woman with dog and sketchbook at cafe

  • Various couples and clusters of people on the riverbank: a woman resting in her lover's lap; two men eating ice cream; a flock of student-types perched around a bench, with drums and guitar; wine and water bottles crowded around a stuffed green garbage bag; ducks bobbing around the broken bricks at the end of a quay

  • Fantastic viol-accordion hybrids (maybe 17th c.?) in one of the Rue Joseph-Phillippe shopwindows, and several papeteries nearby

  • Now, back to work, so that I can meet my friend Anne-Elisa this afternoon with a lighter conscience. It is always later than I think -- every evening, I am surprised that it is already past eight before we get around to dinner, and all the more so when it is already midnight (although last night we both turned into pumpkins by 23h45).
