The subject line is from Carolyn Miller's "Rose Garden, Summer Solstice," which appears in her book Light, Moving.

New entry at Vary the Line (about Miller and others) - "We have surrounded ourselves with things that perish."

More pleasures:

* watching the sun rise
* sipping the last of the Becherovka while doing so
* wrapping up a project and invoicing it
* reprint requests
* perfectly deep-fried scallops (and a terrific waitress)
* chasing after the next line of the poem currently on my plate (...scrambled metaphor, much? Time for an early-morning nap.)
