It's 2.85 pounds and the size of a football. Here's a look at it next to my normal-sized crockpot:

(I picked it up from Fresh Harvest last fall. They sell their "culls" at a lower price than the normal-sized veggies, which results in fun outliers like football-potato. As soon as I post this entry, it's getting chopped up and going into the pot with some stew beef, some Korean bbq sauce, and probably some onions, and we'll see what happens...)

Today's been gray but pleasant. Yesterday was sunny and windy -- I had a literal "Thank the saints I was wearing good underwear" moment when the breeze flipped my dress above my waist. Right when a guy at the corner of 6th and Church was looking right at me, of course. *facepalm*

It wasn't the smartest afternoon to be downtown, as it turned out, what with swarms of visitors in town for hockey playoffs and the marathon and what-have-you. I do love living in a city large enough to support major events, but yeah, hassle. That said, I liked the hair salon I tried, and grabbing lunch afterwards in the new sushi shack in the Arcade (Jimbo's) was a nice break (too much mayo decorating the plate, but very generous portions and friendly staff; the tempura roll special basically covered both lunch and dinner for me).

Poetic goings-on:

  • I placed third and ninth in the March 2010 kukai rounds at haikuworld - my best showing yet (link is currently good, but may show April results sometime after Saturday; the archives are some months behind).

It's nice to feel like I'm making progress in writing memorable ephemera. ;-)

  • I'm told there will be a short poem from me appearing in microcosms (a twitter-zine) any day now. It featured a a lovely one by Joanne earlier this week.

  • Molly Gaudry's Fingertips riffs on three lines from my Sonic Crochet Hook (ObDisclosure: she's writing poems for her supper, a poem per dollar. I read some of the poems she'd written for other people and liked them, so...)

  • Department of People Who Say Things I Need to Keep Remembering:

Andy Roddick: "If you're dealing with pressure that means you're good enough for people to expect something out of you."

Havi Brooks on why it's normal to avoid things one cares about.

And on that note, I'm going to go slay a potato and then deal with sheets, both of the number-crunching and linen varieties. Onward!
